Why most podcasts don’t make it past the first 10 episodes and why DC Decoded will
👋Hello, “DC Decoded” community — welcome to the first written post of “DC Decoded.”
What did we talk about?
In our debut episode, we explored the world of GenAI and discussed the exciting plans for the DC chapter in 2025.
As our Executive Director, Catherine McMillan, put it, "We want the DC chapter of the GenAI Collective to have a seat at the table. That means convening the leading voices of AI in the DC area, whether it's in the technology and innovation space or on the Hill."
Chiming in, one of our founding members, Nate Burola, stated, “The GenAI Collective is building our momentum by expanding our team. We are hosting a variety of events that have different themes related to governance, safety, and other aspects of AI. As we build the brand name for the DC chapter, we’re also signaling to all these different parties that make up the DMV tech ecosystem, ‘We stand for community. We stand for responsible AI principles.’”
We also outlined what listeners can expect from future episodes of the podcast.
Why most podcasts don’t make it past 10 episodes
There are several common reasons why podcasts end early.
Sometimes it's intentional—the show was designed as a limited series or single season.
Other times, it's because the creator is new to podcasting. This reason applies both to complete beginners in content creation and to celebrities who venture into the medium.
Another obvious, but underrated reason: like any product, it takes time, effort, and resources to create a great podcast.
Why “DC Decoded” will have longevity
It’s simple — we have a great team that knows how to keep a great product running.
Nate leads our scheduling and rollout processes as project manager.
Ed brings his expertise as an advisor, drawing from years of podcast and radio hosting experience.
Rin keeps our operations running smoothly.
And as your host, I bring my own experience—this marks my third show overall and second time hosting.
